The Lunenburg and District Fire Department Proudly protects over 5600 citizens of the UNESCO World Heritage Town of Lunenburg and Municipal Fire District #1 and #2.

The 50 firefighters operate out of a state of the art station, which was opened in 1996 with the cooperation of the Town of Lunenburg, District Fire Commission, Province of Nova Scotia, and the Government of Canada.

The Department responds to approximatly 150 calls annually, which include Fires, Motor Vehicle Collisions, Technical Rescue including Marine and Ice rescue, Medical First Response, and Miscellaneous calls which range from fuel leaks to investigations. We operate with two triple combination pumpers, one 78′ Quint Aerial, two Tankers, one Heavy Rescue, 1 Utility/Light Rescue unit, and a 24′ fire boat for offshore fire a rescue needs.
